Documentation Settings Page Restore Default Settings

Restore Default Settings

The “Restore Default Settings” page in the WP Statistics plugin allows you to revert all configurations back to the original settings that were in place upon initial installation. This feature is designed to offer a quick and easy way to start afresh without having to go through the individual settings or if troubleshooting requires resetting to the defaults.

Reset Options

When this option is selected, it indicates your intention to restore the default settings.

Ticking this box will enable the “Restore Defaults” button at the bottom of the page.

Caution

  • Warning: A clear warning is displayed stating that the changes made by this action are irreversible.
  • Implication: It’s important to understand that once the default settings are restored, any custom configurations will be lost permanently.

For Multisite Users

  • Note: An additional note for users running a WordPress multisite installation informs that the reset will affect every site within the network, applying default settings across the board.

Usage

  1. Before Resetting: Confirm that you have recorded any custom settings you may wish to reapply after the reset.
  2. Selecting the Reset Option: Click the checkbox next to “Reset” to indicate you want to proceed with restoring default settings.
  3. Confirmation: Upon clicking the “Restore Defaults” button, a prompt will appear asking you to confirm the action. This is the last opportunity to cancel the reset if you change your mind.
  4. After Reset: The system will automatically restore all settings to their defaults. You will then need to reconfigure any settings you want to customize.

Best Practices

  • Backup: Always ensure that you have a full backup of your website before performing a reset. This way, you can restore your configurations if needed.
  • Documentation: Keep a document of your preferred settings to streamline the process of reconfiguring them after a reset.
  • Multisite Caution: For multisite installations, communicate with all site administrators before performing a reset to prevent unexpected disruptions.

Using the “Restore Default Settings” page provides a straightforward method to revert your plugin settings back to the original defaults. While this action cannot be undone, it can be a powerful tool for troubleshooting or starting anew with the WP Statistics configurations.
