WP Statistics allows you to easily exclude tracking of specific user roles, ensuring your analytics data focuses on the visitors you care about. Follow the steps below to set this up.
Step 1: Navigate to Filtering & Exceptions
- Go to the WP Statistics Settings page in your WordPress dashboard.
- Click on Filtering & Exceptions in the left-hand menu.
Step 2: Enable Exclusions for User Roles
- Scroll to the User Role Exclusions section.
- You’ll see a list of all available WordPress user roles (e.g., Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor).
- Check the box next to the roles you want to exclude from tracking. For example:
- Check Administrator to stop tracking administrators’ activity.
- Leave other roles unchecked if you want to continue tracking their activity.
Once saved, WP Statistics will no longer track the activity of excluded roles while they are logged in.
How It Works
- When a user role is excluded, their activity (e.g., page views, visits) will not be recorded by WP Statistics as long as they are logged in.
- This ensures your data remains focused on visitors rather than administrative or editorial staff working on the website.
Additional Note: Tracking Logged-In Users Anonymously
WP Statistics provides another option called Track Logged-In User Activity:
If this option is disabled, logged-in users (including those not excluded by role) will be tracked anonymously. This means their activity will be recorded without associating it with their user accounts.
