With the release of WP Statistics version 14.11, we’re making an essential change to the minimum PHP version required to run the plugin. From this version onward, WP Statistics requires PHP 7.2 or higher. This update lets us write more scalable, secure, and efficient code for future versions.
Why the PHP Update Matters
If your website is currently running on a version of PHP below 7.2, we strongly recommend upgrading. Older PHP versions are no longer supported by PHP, meaning they don’t receive security updates and could expose your site to vulnerabilities. Additionally, sites with PHP versions below 7.2 won’t be able to receive WP Statistics updates, including version 14.11 and beyond.
Enhanced Device Detection, Thanks to Matomo
This update also enables us to include a more powerful library for detecting visitor devices, provided by our friends at Matomo. Starting in version 14.11, WP Statistics now uses Matomo’s Device Detector library to identify visitor devices with greater accuracy and detail. This means better insights into the types of devices your visitors are using, helping you make more informed decisions based on this improved data.
We’re excited to bring you a more powerful and secure WP Statistics with these changes, and we’re here to help if you have any questions!
